Digital Yahrzeit Plaques
Most of us grew up attending synagogues where the walls were covered with bronze plaques bearing the names and dates of death for congregants or their loved ones who had passed away. Synagogues would turn on a little light next to each name during the week or month marking the anniversary of death, their yahrzeit. Lighting a memorial candle and saying kaddish on a loved one’s yahrzeit is one of the ways we remember and honor them and their legacies of cherished memories.
B’nai Tikvah’s electronic Yahrzeit Board, now in our foyer, scrolls through the names of all those we remember during the week of their yahrzeit on the Hebrew calendar beside an image of flickering memorial candle. You can see it in the building, below, or online at Planned Legacy If you touch (or click on) the screen, you bring up a keyboard that allows you to search for your loved ones’ names.
We can honor more loved ones by adding their names to the digital Yahrzeit Board. We can also enhance this memorial by adding their photo and biography which can be seen when we search for them. Since B’nai Tikvah’s digital yahrzeit board can be viewed and searched online, this provides a way for relatives anywhere to see our yahrzeit tributes.
If you would like to purchase a digital plaque to mark someone’s yahrzeit, or add a photo (jpg) or biography/eulogy to a digital plaque, please complete the order form by clicking on the image of our digital Yahrzeit board below to start your application.
