Join us for Erev Shemini Atzeret services on ZOOM at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night, on the same link as the usual Mincha service. Then please join us Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in our Seresky Sanctuary for morning services, including Yizkor. In the morning, Rob Yunich, Sam Evans, and I will read Torah, Heidi Wortzman will read Haftorah, Dena Kaufman and I will lead services, and I will offer a teaching. Services will conclude around 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by a kiddush luncheon sponsored by Steve Niers in memory of his father, Abraham Niers.
SIMCHAS TORAH
Join us in celebrating the birthday of the Torah as we read the end of Deuteronomy and roll all the way back to the beginning to start the cycle anew. Our evening service will take place in our Seresky Sanctuary and on ZOOMbeginning Thursday night at 6 p.m., with dancing, song, and treats for the kids.
Then, on Friday morning, join us at 9:30 a.m. in our Seresky Sanctuary in person or on Livestream, as we celebrate the Torah and honor our Hattan Torah, Joe Doniger, and Kallat Bereishit, Debbie Gladstone. For both services, Linda Dietrich and Sam Evans will read Torah, Ellie Sirk will read Haftorah, and Dena and I will lead the service. Morning services will conclude around noon and will be followed by a kiddush luncheon sponsored by Mark Gladstone in honor of Debbie being named Kallat Bereishit.
KABBALAT SHABBAT:
Bereishit
We begin at the beginning with Parshat Bereishit: the creation of the world, our expulsion from Eden, starting fresh and starting over. Our Friday night service begins at 6:00 p.m. and concludes around 6:50 p.m. This week, I will lead the service and share a teaching.
Our service is designed to create a buffer between the work week and Shabbat rest. We aim to make the atmosphere like a family shabbat table complete with Candle Lighting, Blessing one another, Kiddush, and Motzei. Before and after the service we take time to check in with one another and share greetings (feel free to log on early). Our service has been abridged for ZOOM but includes familiar and new melodies, readings from the margins of the siddur, and some learning.
SHABBAT MORNING:
Beit-Aharon Bat Mitzvah
Join us in celebrating Leila Beit-Aharon’s Bat Mitzvah! Parshat Bereishit (Gen. 1:1-6:9) ends with an intriguing detail about demigods walking the earth. What might this mean, and how do we understand it within Jewish tradition?
Our Shabbat morning service begins at 10 a.m. in our Seresky Sanctuary, and you can join us in person or on Livestream. This week, Miriam, Becky, Claudette, Yonatan, Nathan, Noah, and Leila Beit-Aharon will read Torah; and Leila Beit-Aharon will also read Haftorah, lead the service and offer a teaching. Services will conclude around noon and will be followed by a kiddush luncheon sponsored by Noah and Becky Beit-Aharon in celebration of Leila’s Bat Mitzvah!
Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Lisa Feld
Simcha Shabbat & Kiddush
We encourage you to sponsor a kiddush to mark a simcha, celebrate a birthday, anniversary, commemorate a yahrzeit, honor an individual's accomplishment, or just to enhance our Shabbat. Since not every kiddush is sponsored, we hope you will consider a contribution to the kiddush fund so we can provide a kiddush every week. All sponsors are much appreciated and will be acknowledged.
We have streamlined this process to make it easier than ever-- come see our new kiddush sponsorship page on the website!
